Stands in Piazza Castello, just before the Piazzetta Reale, and has a simple façade uniformed to nearby buildings.

It was begun in 1634 to fulfill the vote formulated by Emanuele Filiberto on the eve of the battle of San Quentin on the French (10 August 1557), but only thanks to the intervention of the Teatine monk Guarino Guarini, who arrived in Turin in 1666, came to the consecration of the church in 1680.

The church is preceded by the Oratory of Our Lady of Sorrows (Antonio Dupuy 1846), which stands in the place of the ancient church of Santa Maria del Presepe.

The internal environment is octagonal with convex sides, covered by a bright dome with lantern. Four concave chapels open diagonally across the sides.

The extraordinary Guarini’s ability is reiterated in the design of the dome formed by a skeleton made up of sixteen fascines which, crossing each other, recall to anthropomorphic figures. The structure, brought back to the essential elements, captures the light through large windows and gives the building a strong vertical momentum.
