The “levadas” are the most charming and well-known hiking trails that you can enjoy during a stay in the beautiful Portuguese town of Madeira, and for about 11 km leads through the most beautiful spots in the heart of the mountains.

Starting from the town of Calheta, the path welcomes you with lush vegetation and borders the levadas, the characteristic irrigation channels of the Rabaçal Valley that give the name to the path itself.

It is a historical network dating back even to the nineteenth century and still has the function to ensure the water supply of crops.

The destination that you absolutely have to reach along the way and that is the main point of interest is the one you meet at the “25 fontes”, a picturesque natural amphitheater of cascades and waterfalls that go to gather in a fresh natural pool.
